Between Worlds

The exhibition “Between Worlds” represents an assembly of two individual artistic projects, made by the artists Bogdan Maximovici and Adrian Stoleriu.

The personal artistic project, presented under the generic title “Between worlds”, consists of a series of works made in the period 2017-2019 (not exhibited until now in a unified exhibition framework), through which I sought to translate into visual images the fruit of a inner process of imagination, referring to the possibility of the existence of a metaphysical world, on the border between the material and the spiritual. In a first register of works, winged characters that evoke the presence of angels or beings from outside the terrestrial plane, subtle landscape elements that “break” the decorative two-dimensionality of the painted space, varied contrasts alongside continuous searches for plastic textures, articulations of both figurative and abstract forms, they all constitute the visual, ideational and plastic instruments through which I imagined the existence of a world dominated by another connotation of the relationship between spirit and matter. Dichotomy is everywhere present in the works of this cycle, the joining of opposite principles (feminine-masculine, night-day, erotic-grotesque, immanent-transcendent, sacred-profane) behaving as a genuine condition for reaching or finding the necessary balance.

A second register of works presented in the form of a pictorial installation, made up of a set of seven painted panels, describes an initiatory, ontological route, which also combines elements of some realities experienced during childhood or youth, with imaginary sequences from the stages maturity and old age, recreated on account of a very sincere introspective process.

The works presented in this cycle do not draw verdicts, but leave the way open to any interpretations or value judgments, inviting the public to deliberate on the meanings and meanings carried. In my personal opinion, the works of the artistic project “Between Worlds”, started more than six years ago, currently exhibited alongside the paintings of the artist Bogdan Maximovici, can be considered a search and discovery effort, initiated with aplomb, then abandoned and forgotten for a while, but eventually rediscovered to reveal itself publicly after a relatively long (and perhaps necessary) period of settling and reflection.
